The route will drive us directly to the historic town of Corfu (UNESCO World Heritage Monument), as we begin to ride along the back side of the new fortress. We keep on moving south-east until we reach the two most famous landmarks of Corfu: the Monastery of Vlacherna and the little green islet of “Pontikonisi” (Mouse-Island). The ride continues passing by the former royal estate of “Mon Repos” and the nearby archaeological site. We ride then towards the historic Old Town via the coastal boulevard of Garitsa, having a spectacular view of the Old Fortress. The tour continues with a short visit to the famous Spianada Square, getting an overview of the elegant Liston building complex and then we pass through the arch of the Old Palace. At the end of the tour, we descend slowly via the romantic seafront lane of “Mouragia” having at our left hand side some amazing examples of renaissance urban Corfiot architecture and at our right hand side the sparkling blue sea and the green islet of Vido. The tour ends at the Old Port in front of the Venetian Gate and the winged Lion of St. Mark. Visits to Mon Repos, Old Fortress, Church of St. Spyridon and Museum of Asian Art can be arranged upon request and may be the highlight of the tour as the group will be guided by a corfiot art restorer. An alternative to the biking tour around the Town of Corfu can be a guided walking tour, where participants will have more time to see several historic building, to walk around the narrow lanes of the Old Town and in the Jewish Quarter.
